ODYSSEY – PROJECT WORK

So, you may or may not know that, alongside my commercial work as a photographer, I’ve been studying and creating work for an M.A. in Photography through Falmouth University. There’s a huge amount of assignment work and learning to be done, and alongside that I am building a long-term project which looks at the notion of belonging. As a result I’m creating a diverse amount of practice-led research work.

As part of this, I’m working with a wide range of people; some in a documentary manner, and others in a more ‘interpretative’ way as here with the inspirational performer, writer, and model Naomi Wood.

The shoot produced a variety of strong images, some of which work more specifically in my M.A. work-in-progress portfolio. But, as the shoot went so well, and Naomi was so great to work with, I wanted to present a broader sequence here.

One thing that kept coming through for me as we made the work, was the theme of the journey or odyssey. And that’s partly the reason for the salt and threads that are lying on the floor in some of the images. And Naomi brought her own sensitivity and response to this.

Images were shot on medium format across the board, both digitally (Fuji GFX50S) and on analogue (Mamiya 645).
