A Georgian Inspired Studio Photoshoot

It’s always great for me to work with new people. There’s an immediate sense of stepping outside the comfort zone, something I love when I’m on on a photo-shoot. Plus you get to collaborate with someone who works in a way you’ve not encountered before. That’s one of the reasons I love photographing people anyway: it’s nearly always a brand new experience. That’s one of the real privileges of my job.
That’s what’s going on here. Ella Vallance (Fresh Agents Ltd) is a model I’d not worked with before. This ensured I was working with her, finding out things as we went along – what worked and what didn’t.
The idea behind the shoot was to create some portraits loosely inspired by Georgian fashion and styling (hence the hat and stylised lips). It was also a chance to add some images to the portfolios of both Ella and Brighton-based make-up artist Lucille Dee. I also wanted to play with a new high-key portrait lighting set-up. And I really like the results. Hope
The resulting image set contains a sense of immediacy and freshness, something I’m always looking for when I shoot portraits of any kind.
To close out the set, I chose to process and retouch them myself, pulling out cool hues that compliment the vibrant make-up.
